Israeli soliders kill Palestinian man in raid on West Bank refugee camp

ISRAELI soldiers killed a Palestinian man and wounded three others during a night raid on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank early this morning.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed Mohammed Edwan, a 23-year-old man and resident of the Qalandiya refugee camp just south of Ramallah, to be the victim.

“The victim was shot more than 10 times by the forces, who left him to bleed to death,” the ministry said.

The soldiers later took Mr Edwan’s body and returned it an hour later to paramedics, according to eyewitness reports given to the Ma’an news agency.

Mr Edwan was taken to a hospital in Ramallah where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Three others were injured in the clash and remain in hospital. One of the wounded remains in serious condition.

The Israeli military said that its troops had arrested 12 Palestinians in the West Bank today who were wanted for “involvement in terror activity and violent disturbances.”

“Rocks and explosive devices were hurled at the troops, who responded with fire. A report was received regarding an injured Palestinian. The incident will be examined.”

Meanwhile in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to travel to Russia for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, five days ahead of Israel’s general election.

Netanyahu’s office announced the plans today but did not state the reason for the visit, though the two leaders have meet three times over the past year to discuss military affairs in Syria.
