US PRESIDENT Donald Trump landed in China yesterday — hours after he demanded Beijing blockade North Korea.
Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Mr Trump to Beijing for talks expected to focus on the nuclear stand-off with North Korea and on trade between the two superpowers.
Before flying to the Chinese capital, Mr Trump issued fresh threats to Pyongyang in an address to the South Korean National Assembly.
“The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer, they are putting your regime in grave danger,” he said.
North Korean diplomats recently reiterated plans to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean.
On Tuesday Mr Trump underlined that three US aircraft carrier battle groups and a nuclear submarine had been deployed to the region during his Asian tour.
Mr Trump urged “responsible nations” to unite “to isolate the brutal regime of North Korea.”
Meanwhile Chinese and US firms signed a series of contracts worth around $9 billion (£7 billion) yesterday to coincide with the leaders’ meeting.
