THE Tories’ candidate to be mayor of London has been exposed as a supporter of Donald Trump and the racist late MP Enoch Powell who sparked protests when he made an infamous speech predicting “rivers of blood” in Britain caused by immigration.
Susan Hall has been chosen to stand against London Mayor Sadiq Khan in the elections in May next year.
Anti-racist campaign group Hope Not Hate investigated Ms Hall’s social media and is demanding she be suspended as mayoral candidate.
A Hope Not Hate statement said: “Across her social media, Hall has shown support for Enoch Powell, endorsed Islamophobic tropes about Sadiq Khan and engaged in conspiracies around the 2020 American election.
“We’ve found numerous examples of Hall supporting deeply alarming views.”
Responding to a message by far-right journalist Katie Hopkins, which called Khan “our nipple height mayor of Londonistan,” Hall wrote: “Thank you Katie!”
“Londonistan” is an Islamophobic term inferring that Muslims are taking over London.
“This is just one of many examples which, together, display a pattern of deeply concerning behaviour,” said Hope Not Hate.
Last month Ms Hall was criticised for saying the “dangerous” Notting Hill Carnival should be moved and claiming there was a “problem with crime” in the black community.
Hope Not Hate has written an open letter to Conservative Party chairman Greg Hands calling for Ms Hall to be removed as Tory candidate.
The letter states: “Susan Hall is hoping to be mayor of London, one of the most diverse cities in the world.
“She must be able to treat all Londoners equally and with respect.
“Given her social media conduct, we question that she would be fit to do so.
“These are not isolated incidents, it is a pattern of behaviour where when taken together it shows that Susan Hall must be investigated.
“The Conservative Party must suspend Susan Hall and undertake a full investigation into her conduct and candidacy.”
A spokesperson for Ms Hall’s campaign said: “Susan engages with many people on Twitter without endorsing their views.
“Londoners want a mayor who listens to people and deals with the bread-and-butter issues that matter to them — making our streets safer and putting more money back in people’s pockets. As mayor, Susan will deliver that.”
