UNITE Scotland has launched a campaign to improve the low pay and poor working conditions of Scotland’s care-sector workers.
The Who Cares for Our Carers drive, unveiled yesterday, seeks support from politicians on key demands which would improve conditions for workers.
Unite is calling for the introduction of national collective bargaining as well as the introduction of a national care service.
The union would also like to see a new care commission launched to push through the changes.
Unite Scottish secretary Pat Rafferty said: “These workers deserve to be recognised and rewarded for the vital work that they do, day in day out, Covid or no Covid.
“The time is now to bring about positive change to ensure that these workers get a better deal.”
The campaign has been backed by Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard, who is offering his support in “bringing together these workers to fight for the recognition and pay that they deserve.”
