Sport in brief: November 11, 2024

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Champions League action resumes tomorrow evening with the early kick-off seeing Arsenal in a crucial Group C match at Juventus before Norway’s Valerenga visit unbeaten group leaders Bayern Munich.

Tonight’s group C fixtures pit reigning champions Barcelona against Austria’s St Polten while table-topping Manchester City host Hammarby at the Academy Stadium.

Chelsea travel to Celtic for tomorrow’s Group B clash.

ICE HOCKEY: Coventry’s good start to the season came to a grinding halt over the weekend with a 2-1 loss at Guildford and 3-0 defeat on their own ice to Elite League leaders Cardiff Devils, who also saw off Guildford 3-1.

Second-placed Sheffield won 4-2 at Nottingham and 5-2 at home to Belfast.

Fife Flyers are bottom of the table after a 5-4 overtime loss to Glasgow and going down 5-2 at Dundee.

WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: Sabrina Poulin scored two tries as Exeter swept aside Loughborough University 40-19 to preserve the league’s only unbeaten record and move six points clear in the English Women’s Premiership.

Defending champions Gloucester-Hartpury are up to second after their bonus point 32-19 win at Ealing, while Bristol thumped winless Leicester 62-7 and Harlequins beat bottom of the table Sale 38-7.

MEN’S CRICKET:

Captain Jos Buttler hit eight fours and six sixes on his way to 83 from 45 balls as England thumped the West Indies by seven wickets in the second leg of their five match Twenty20 series late on Sunday night.

Rovman Powell top-scored for the Windies in their 158-8 with Saqib Mahmood, Liam Livingstone and Dan Mousley all picking up two wickets.

The next match is in Saint Lucia on Thursday.
