Men’s football: Middlesbrough are set to hold talks with former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick over their managerial vacancy.
The PA news agency understands Boro are due to open formal discussions with the 41-year-old as they step up the search for a replacement for Chris Wilder, who left the club last week following 11 months at the helm.
Athletics: CJ Ujah has insisted he is “not a cheat” and blamed a failed drugs test on a “convenient” supplement he bought for £10 from Amazon after receiving a backdated 22-month ban.
Great Britain lost their 4×100 metres silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics when Ujah tested positive for two prohibited substances.
However, Ujah, 28, was found not to have breached the sport’s doping rules on purpose.
He will be allowed to return to competition when his ban ends in June of next year.
Men’s football: Tottenham pair Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura took part in training today ahead of the Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt tonight.
Kulusevski has not played since the international break due to a hamstring injury he picked up with Sweden, while Moura has been out since the early part of the season with a tendon injury.
Their inclusion meant it was a full squad training ahead of Wednesday’s Group D clash with the Europa League champions.
Men’s football: Liverpool’s injury woes continue to mount after defender Joel Matip was ruled out for at least a couple of weeks with a calf problem.
Defeat to Arsenal has proved to be more damaging than just the result, with Matip the third player to be forced off in the game now facing a lay-off.
Luis Diaz has been ruled out until after the World Cup with a knee injury and Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered an ankle injury which will rule him out of Wednesday’s trip to Rangers.
