Men’s basketball: London Lions followed up their 79-66 victory over Bristol Flyers with a fourth win in a row, seeing off Sheffield 69-54 to ensure runaway league leaders Leicester’s quest for the BBL championship is delayed for another week, despite them crushing Newcastle 103-77.
Third-placed Manchester won 96-89 in Bristol, Glasgow bagged big wins over Cheshire and bottom club Surrey and Sheffield beat Plymouth 71-61.
Cycling: Double Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar missed out on Sunday’s Tour of Flanders when he mistimed a very slow cat and mouse chase in the last kilometre with eventual winner Mathieu van der Poel Pogacar, eventually finishing fourth behind Dylan Van Baarle and Valentin Madouas.
Lotte Kopecky out-sprinted Annemiek van Vleuten to win the women’s race with Chantal van der Broek-Blaak third.
Women’s basketball: Table-topping London Lions extended their record-breaking winning streak to 28 league games after overwhelming Cardiff Met 92-52.
Sevenoaks Suns kept up the pressure in second by edging out Caledonian Pride 86-75. Newcastle gained wins over Gloucester and Durham, who also squeezed past Sheffield 66-63.
Essex pipped Leicester 84-80 and Manchester won 67-59 at Oakland, who also lost out 84-77 to Nottingham.
Men’s ice hockey: Sheffield Steelers swatted away Nottingham 6-2 before losing on penalty shots to the struggling Manchester Storm and remain second as Belfast stayed on top of The Elite League with a 5-0 thumping off Guildford, who had beaten the Cardiff Devils 6-5 in overtime the day before. Bottom club Fife beat Dundee 4-3 but also lost 2-1 at Coventry, who went on to thrash Nottingham 10-4, whilst Glasgow lost 2-1 in overtime to Dundee.
