WSL United maintain unbeaten start with 2-1 WSL win against Reading

Despite win, manager Casey Stoney laments allowing opponents to 'grow into the game'

HAYLEY LADD scored a late header yesterday as Manchester United beat Reading 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten start in the Women’s Super League.

The visitors started the game brightly and made their breakthrough after 30 minutes when Leah Galton finished off a swift United counter-attack.

Reading went level 10 minutes into the second half when Wales international Jess Fishlock drove towards the box and fired a shot which deflected off United’s Millie Turner and found its way into the net.

But with just seven minutes remaining, the Red Devils restored their lead through Ladd. As a corner got flicked on, she was on hand to head past Grace Moloney and secure all three points.

Despite the win, manager Casey Stoney believes that her side could have been better.

“We weren’t at our best today,” the United boss said.

“We allowed them to grow into the game in the second half when we should have had more control.”

Chelsea rose to second in the table, three points behind United, after a 1-0 away win against Brighton. A 1-1 draw against fourth-placed Man City dropped Arsenal into third.
