Sport in brief: October 25, 2022

RACING: Jockey Ben Sutton has been taken to hospital for further examination following a heavy fall on Kepy Blanc at Bangor.

The horse was put down.

Sutton was riding the Philip Hobbs-trained 9-4 favourite in the Halloween Handicap Chase when the pair fell at the third fence in the extended two-mile-one-furlong contest.

The yellow “stop race” flag was deployed, with the race declared void by the stewards.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Manchester City will change the colour of the shorts on their women’s kits from the 2023-24 season due to players’ concerns about wearing white while on their periods.

In the last few weeks both West Brom and Stoke have announced a switch to navy and red shorts respectively for their women’s teams, following consultation with the squads.

SPORT SAFETY: Football at all levels is experiencing a rise in instances of discrimination, Kick It Out chair Tony Burnett told a committee of MPs yesterday.

He was among a panel of experts to answer questions from MPs on Parliament’s digital, culture, media & sport committee conducting an inquiry into safety at major sporting events, including issues such as personal security, accessibility, and freedom from prejudice.
