Men’s cricket: Pakistan made impressive progress replying to England’s 657 all out as they finished the second day of the first Test on 181 without loss on a docile Rawalpindi pitch.
Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique both moved towards centuries as the tourists toiled in the field in the afternoon and evening sessions after being bowled out before lunch.
Captain Ben Stokes constantly tinkered with the field, keeping several players close to the bat, but they did not create many chances on the flat deck.
England used six of their bowling options but were unable to find the breakthrough, with Imam and Shafique looking comfortable and confident at the crease on 90 and 89 respectively.
Men’s football: Former Celtic and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths and Dundee midfielder Paul McGowan have been questioned by police investigating alleged gambling in sport.
Police Scotland carried out an operation in Bothwell, South Lanarkshire, Bonnyrigg in Midlothian and Airdrie in North Lanarkshire on Thursday.
The force said that three men were arrested and released without charge pending further inquiries.
Griffiths, who is currently without a club, and McGowan, 35, were team-mates at Dundee last season and the investigation reportedly surrounds suspicious betting pattens on a match involving the Dens Park club.
Men’s football: Bath striker Alex Fletcher has been discharged from hospital and returned home to continue his recovery from a severe head injury suffered last month.
Bath’s National League South fixture against Dulwich Hamlet on November 8 was abandoned after Fletcher collided with an advertising hoarding at Twerton Park in the fifth minute.
The 23-year-old was taken by ambulance to hospital and underwent emergency neurosurgery and had previously said he was on a “long road to recovery.”
