LEADING Premier League stars will undertake a 24-hour social media boycott today in protest at recent high-profile incidents of racial abuse.
The boycott, organised by the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) under the #Enough hashtag, aims to bring players together to demand more action from social media networks and authorities.
Head of equalities at the PFA Simone Pound said: “Football has the power to do so much good in the world. We must always try to use the sport’s popularity and influence to make positive change.”
The PFA are encouraging players to post an #Enough graphic on their social media accounts before beginning the boycott at 9am this morning.
The campaign comes in the wake of a series of incidents of online racism including abuse of Manchester United defender Ashley Young following his side’s Champions League quarter-final defeat in Barcelona this week.
