CITY of Liverpool FC parted ways with manager Craig Robinson yesterday after Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Workington on a miserable day in Cumbria.
The loss to Workington made it three from three in the league.
And after being dumped out of the FA Cup a fortnight ago, a club statement said that “it was agreed by all parties that Craig would leave his post as first team manager by mutual consent.”
Saturday’s game saw Reuben Jerome open the scoring for the Reds from close range after 11 minutes, after a dangerous cross from the left by Liam Brockbank.
Nathan Burke equalised from the spot for the Purps minutes later after Tony Gray had been fouled. The midfielder despatched his penalty with aplomb, giving Jim Atkinson in the home goal no chance.
Parity was short-lived however, as Brockbank turned from provider to goalscorer shortly afterwards, despatching a left-footed effort low beyond the onrushing Andy Marshall as the hosts went in ahead at the break.
After the interval Jerome extended Workington’s lead from close range with Brockbank again the provider.
Sub Carl Lightfoot then delicately lobbed Andy Marshall to make it 4-1, before Louis Potts hammered home to make it five with an angled finish after the goalkeeper made a good stop.
John McGrath added a consolation for the Purps late on with a fine solo goal, but in truth the visitors were well beaten on the day.
And with Robinson out of the hot seat, the search for a new permanent manager has already begun.
“The club wishes to place on record our thanks and appreciation to Craig for his service as both player and manager,” the statement added.
“He has never been anything other than 100 per cent committed to the cause of City of Liverpool FC and has worked tirelessly to enable the club to make the transition to Northern Premier League status a success.
“Craig gets what this club is about, he understands our values and ambitions and the role that our supporters play. We hope to see him finally being able to watch and actually enjoy a Purps match when he feels the time is right.”
Robinson joined COLFC in 2018 and won the North West Counties Premier League title in his debut season.
