THE addition of three more white men to the EFL board this week is indicative of a lack of top-level diversity across the leagues, the Fair Game football reform campaign said today.
Nottingham Forest chairman Nicholas Randall QC, Preston director Peter Ridsdale and Middlesbrough chief executive Neil Bausor were appointed to the board to represent Championship clubs on Wednesday.
Their appointments take the board back up to 10 members, but only one, Debbie Jevans, is not a white male.
Fair Game, which has been formally endorsed by 10 EFL clubs and drawn cross-party political support, is seeking independent regulation of football as part of the ongoing fan-led review commissioned by the Tory government.
Director Niall Couper said: “The shame is that the pool of candidates for the board remains remarkably white and male.
“If we are to be truly representative of society then we need to start taking the equality standards seriously.
“They should no longer be a mere tick-box exercise.”
The EFL was contacted for comment.
