RMT has suspended strike action planned later this month after Avanti West Coast sent a revised offer, the rail union said today.

Train managers were due to strike on December 22, 23, and 29 after rejecting the company’s proposals on rest-day working arrangements.

RMT said workers were treated unfairly compared with senior managers, who receive significant payments for covering these roles.

But the union says the offer has now been revised and includes enhanced rest-day working payments and discussions on a new technology agreement.

“We remain in dispute with Avanti as our members vote on the revised offer,” the union said.

They will vote on the deal next Tuesday. 

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “We are pleased that the RMT has decided to suspend these strikes which would have caused major disruption to our services — this will come as a relief to our customers who were making travel plans over the Christmas period.

“We remain open to discussion with the RMT and await the outcome of the referendum where train managers can vote on this offer.”
