PRINCES Food bosses have asked Unite for talks following a week of strike action at five British factories, the union said today.
Workers at the factories in Bradford, Wisbech, Glasgow, Cardiff and Long Sutton reached agreement on a pay increase worth 5-7 per cent with Princes Food owners Mitsubishi last year.
But in August, Mitsubishi sold the firm to Italian conglomerate Newlat S.p.A.
The new owner reneged on the deal and reduced the increase to 3 per cent.
The workers staged two days of strike action at each factory last week.
Pickets were out today at the Bradford factory in West Yorkshire, where Unite regional officer Mark Fieldhouse told the Morning Star: “The mood at the Bradford factory and all the factories is great.
“After they reneged on the pay deal the new owners refused to talk to us. Newlat has now asked for talks. But the strike action will continue.”
Princes Food, whose brands include Branston and Crosse & Blackwell, was invited to comment.
