Petition to City Hall for the "world's greenest venue"

CAMPAIGNERS have called on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to support the building of the “world's greenest venue” on the Earls Court Masterplan site.

A petition with 1,250 signatures, gathered by campaigner Bella Hardwick, was delivered to City Hall yesterday.

Councillor Linda Wade of the Earl’s Court ward accompanied the petitioner to show support.

Ms Hardwick said Mr Khan had had two years since inheriting the Masterplan from his predecessor Boris Johnson to “sort this mess out.”

She said: “It is a disgrace that more than 22 acres of land lie empty whilst the redevelopment falters.

“Mayor Khan must intervene on a temporary and permanent basis on this wasteland and build the world’s greenest venue from the pips up to bring back the beating heart of Earl's Court.”

Suggestions for the ongoing development include social housing, housing for emergency services and nurses, a volleyball pitch, a performance hall, community space for special educational needs and “a real park, not a developer’s park.”
