Outsourced hospital staff demanding equal conditions to NHS counterparts announce two-day strike

OUTSOURCED hospital staff have announced a two-day strike demanding the same pay and working conditions as their NHS counterparts.

The G4S cleaners and porters are set to walk out of Croydon University Hospital in south London next Monday and Tuesday.

The workers, members of GMB union, voted overwhelmingly for strike action in a ballot earlier this month.

GMB regional organiser Helen O’Connor said most of these workers’ contracts do not offer the same sick pay and other benefits to which NHS staff are entitled; the few workers on NHS contracts are denied uplifts and bonuses received by their NHS colleagues.

“Our members are fed up of being treated like the rubbish they get rid of every day,” she said.

“If G4S and the Trust fail to come up with a serious offer to resolve this dispute, our members will embark on an escalating programme of strike action starting with 48 hours next Monday and Tuesday.”

The trust and G4S have been contacted for comment.
