NORTH KOREA’S commitment to denuclearisation and maintaining peace and stability on the Korean peninsula remains unchanged, Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho told his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing today.
He added that Pyongyang hoped to build “required mutual trust” with the United States and “move in the same direction.”
The North Korean diplomat later paid a courtesy call on President Xi Jinping, who told him: “The international and regional situation as well as the situation on the Korean peninsula remains in flux.
“So timely exchanges and the co-ordination of positions between China and North Korea are still extremely essential,” he said.
Mr Xi expressed his hope that Pyongyang and Washington could meet each other halfway and address each other’s reasonable concerns.
Pyongyang, having dismantled its nuclear testing facility and released US detainees, is impatient for US action on lifting sanctions and declaring formally that the 1950-53 Korean war is over.
