A LIVERPOOL music venue has announced that it is being forced to close to make way for luxury flats.

Quarry, which is located inside a disused railway arch in the city centre, opened in 2020, and also serves as a recording studio and arts space.

Today its owners decided to “put an end to any rumours circulating” and shared the news of its closure on social media.

“Over the past 12 months, we have been aware of planning permission applied for by Network Rail, in partnership with a third- party property developer, to turn the units located on Love Lane into a luxury apartment complex,” they said. 

“This application, along with the sale of the land, has been approved and is set to be completed in January 2025.”

They said they were being ”kept out of the loop of any timelines,” but that it was “highly likely” they will have to leave in early 2025, although they added that plans are in motion to continue in a new site. 

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “A new residential and commercial scheme is being planned for the Quarry music venue in Liverpool and is being delivered by Cheshire based developer, Sourced Development Group. Planning permission has been granted for 507 apartments across four acres of land near the Ten Streets regeneration area.

“We will be notifying current tenants about the future plans for the development and when the space will be required.”
