Leaked Pentagon documents reveal US has been spying on its ally South Korea

LEAKED Pentagon documents appear to reveal that the United States has been spying on its ally South Korea.

The leak shows that South Korea was torn over whether to sell ammunition that could be used by Ukraine’s military.

Washington has been pushing Seoul to arm Kiev, but it has so far resisted, saying that it has a policy of not supplying weapons to countries at war.

The leak details a top-secret conversation between South Korean foreign affairs secretary adviser Yi Mun Hui and then national security adviser Kim Sung Han on March 1 during which it was said that the government was “mired in concerns that the US would not be the end user” of the ammunition.

Kim Jong Dae, an adviser to the former liberal government, described the leak as an “intelligence disaster” for Seoul.

“This is the tip of the iceberg. There is no way in hell this is it,” he added.

While the leaked documents appear genuine, there is a dispute over some details, such as the overall casualties suffered by both Ukraine and Russia in the conflict.

The US and South Korea say they are investigating the leak, which Pentagon official Chris Meagher described as “a very serious risk to national security.”
