HUNDREDS of Palestine supporters blockaded London’s Tower Bridge on Saturday demanding an end to British arms sales to Israel.
The blockade followed a rally in Trafalgar Square supported by more than 30,000 protesters.
Campaign groups Youth Demand, Prayers for Gaza, Pal Pulse, Thanet for Palestine and Ealing Friends of Palestine mounted the blockade amid chants of “Free Palestine” and smoke from flares.
Police moved in to clear the blockade and there were several arrests.
An Ealing Friends of Palestine statement said: “We took action in response to the horrifying images of civilians being burned alive, starved, and kept under siege — particularly in northern Gaza.
“We aim to cause as much disruption as possible to hit those in power where it hurts: financially.
“It is time for the UK government to stop arming this colonial regime.”
Protester Tessa Roe-Stanton, 20, a student from London, said: “When do we say enough and put our bodies on the line to stop the genocide-as-usual regime?”
