ANOTHER council urged beleaguered Tory MP Nadine Dorries to resign her seat today, accusing the former culture secretary of abandoning her constituents.
In a letter to the Mid Bedfordshire MP, Shefford Town Council said Ms Dorries has “scant interest” in the local area.
The damning intervention came after Flitwick Town Council also urged the ex-frontbencher to stand down last month.
Ms Dorries announced in June that she would quit Parliament after failing to receive a peerage, but she is yet to formally do so.
The latest letter raised questions about the 66-year-old’s commitment to being an MP, pointing out that she has not spoken in the Commons chamber since July 2022 and last voted in April.
The letter, signed by Shefford mayor Ken Pollard, also accused Ms Dorries of an “aversion to attending local events or services” and acting “in direct violation of the seven principles of public life.”
Labour MP Sir Chris Bryant has proposed tabling a motion in Parliament requiring an MP to attend the Commons. A failure to do so could see them found in contempt, suspended and facing a by-election, he suggested last month.
