Guerilla projection on Parliament demands tax on the super-rich to save the planet

CAMPAIGNERS shone guerilla projections on government buildings today, calling for the super-rich to be taxed out of existence to fund climate action.

The words “tax the super-rich” were displayed on the Houses of Parliament in London as part of the action by Climate Resistance.

The faces of billionaires Roman Abramovich and Jim Ratcliffe also appeared on the walls of the Treasury in Westminster, alongside Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, with a call  to “tax them out of existence!”

As part of a new Abolish Billionaires campaign, Climate Resistance is calling for the government to impose a 100 per cent tax on assets of more than £10 million to fund social services and action against global warming.

According to YouGov polling, more than half of Britons believe that billionaires should not exist and, according to the most recent survey, published on March 25, 78 per cent support the creation of a wealth tax.

Calls for a wealth tax have intensified following Labour’s decision to slash £4.8bn from welfare spending.

Sam Simons of Climate Resistance said: “The richest 1 per cent own more wealth than the bottom 95 per cent and they create more pollution in a day than any one of us could in a lifetime.

“The majority of Britain agrees that billionaires should not even exist.

“And still, when the government comes looking for money, the most vulnerable are sacrificed and climate targets tossed away to protect the interests of oligarchs.

“If the Budget is incompatible with decent living standards and a liveable planet, it’s time to bin the Budget and finally tax billionaires.”
