MORE than a hundred workers at First Bus in Glasgow are set to strike later this month amid a long-running pay dispute.
Unite the Union has announced that around 150 of their members — engineers with First Glasgow branches — will walk out on November 16 and 17.
They had overwhelmingly backed industrial action after Unite research revealed that workers there had seen the value of their wages fall by £3,000 as a result of sub-inflation pay uplifts over the last five years.
First Bus Glasgow made a combined profit of £4.3 million last year and First Group boss Ryan Mangold saw his remuneration package soar by £1.9m to a staggering £3.1m this year.
Unite industrial officer Pat McIlvogue said: “Strike action is now inevitable due to First Glasgow dragging its wheels over a fair pay offer for our members.
“Without the engineers, First Glasgow will grind to a halt because they ensure the buses work around the clock.
“The simple fact is our members have been underpaid and undervalued for years by First Glasgow.”
First Bus claims it pays staff “a fair wage” relative to their role in the business.
