G4S cash handlers begin voting on strike action over real-terms pay cut

MORE than 1,000 G4S cash handlers began voting on strike action today after bosses offered them a real-terms pay cut.

GMB union said members are angry after being offered a deal as low as 1.4 per cent after its direct competitor Loomis offered workers 4.6 per cent.

The G4S Cash workers deliver millions of pounds each week across the country to banks and businesses.

The strike could leave ATMs without cash, while airports may run out of foreign currency, said the union.

GMB national officer Eamon O’Hearn said: “G4S cash workers face rising inflation — the offer from the company amounts to a real-terms pay cut.

“G4S is the most successful UK cash company, slashing costs during the past year thanks to the hard work of GMB members.”

A G4S Cash Solutions UK spokesperson said: “We are continuing to engage with GMB and hope to reach an amicable agreement without the need for industrial action.”

The ballot ends on March 21.
