Festive strike at Edinburgh Airport called off as union and North Air agree on new pay deal

UNITE’S 19-day festive strike at Edinburgh airport has been called off after reaching a pay agreement with North Air, the company said today.

Fuel tanker drivers were set to walk out at 5am on December 18 until January 6.

The aviation union warned that the strikes would disrupt and ground flights at Scotland’s largest airport during one of its busiest times of the year.

Today a spokesperson for North Air said: “We are pleased to confirm that we have reached an agreement with Unite on pay and that the planned strike at Edinburgh Airport has been called off.”

North Air provides refuelling services for domestic and international airlines.

Unite said it had refused to re-enter pay negotiations when it announced its strike action last week.

Members had rejected 4.5 per cent pay offer by the company, following years of below-inflation pay increases, added the union.

General secretary Sharon Graham said the company “can fully afford to make a fair offer.”
