Saturday, May 2
Over the course of the crisis, it’s been disheartening to see world leaders cling to their pre-pandemic priorities of war, sanctions and military spending. So let’s start the week with some ambitious goals — fixing those skewed priorities with fellow campaigners at Stop the War. The 2pm webinar Organise During Covid will be speaking to Unite members at Sheffield Students Union on their successful bid to win furlough pay, and how we can repeat these victories across the country.

I’m sure we all had suspicions when the Chancellor announced his multi-billion-pound job-retention scheme to support workers through the crisis. And sure enough, over the weeks the government has repeatedly shifted the goal posts to restrict who is eligible and how much they can get.

It’s difficult to imagine what it’s like for the two million people trapped in Gaza with the existential threat of coronavirus looming above them. To give us an idea, tune in to the Amos Trust’s webinar Ahlan from Gaza at 5pm and hear from journalist Omar Ghraieb who is documenting the impact of the crisis on his home.
At 8pm rush out with those pots and pans, not just to thank key workers but to protest the gross failures of our government to protect them.

The weekend is finally here so let’s begin to wind down from that full-on week with some solidari(tea).
Boil the kettle for a Cup’a’Tea with Migrant Voice - a cosy weekly meet up at 5pm to share any concerns you or migrant communities are having in your area as well as tips to keeping healthy and happy.
If you miss staying out till the early hours then tune in at 1am for a live(ish) concert across the pond by artist Mendeleyev Allan Blitz.
The up and coming US singer’s creamy vocals and smooth guitar playing are a perfect way to lull you into the weekend. The event is part of a series of live streams every Friday supporting performers who’ve been hit hard by cancelled tours and closed venues.
Shows are free but donations are very much welcomed.
