Corbyn to join Glasgow campaigners demanding a ban on arms sales to Israel

THOUSANDS of campaigners rallying in Glasgow for peace this weekend will be joined by independent MP Jeremy Corbyn.

The anti-war campaigner and former Labour leader will join Scottish CND, the STUC, and the Stop the War Coalition Scotland (STWCS) comrades to demand a ban on arms sales to Israel and peace in the Middle East.

Calling for an end to the slaughter, which has seen more than 42,000 people killed at the hands of the Israeli military, the rally is backed by FBU, EIS, UCU, PCS, and RMT trade unions as well as Pax Christie, the Palestine Democratic Forum, the Scottish Lebanese Society and the Afghan Human Rights Foundation.

STWC Scotland secretary Sophie Johnson said: “The vast majority of Scottish people are horrified by the ongoing genocide and outraged at the role of the UK government.

“We do not want British arms in Israel’s hands, we do not want an escalation of war in the Middle East and we demand that our governments — both Scottish and British —  do everything in their power to put a stop to Israel’s genocidal onslaught.”

Campaigners will assemble at Glasgow Green at 11.30am on Saturday.
