ACTIVISTS in London have formed a human chain in solidarity with protesters in India fighting for sexual equality.
Women in Kerala, southern India, formed a 620-kilometre “symbolic wall of enlightenment” yesterday after the Hindu temple Sabarimala was closed to women “of menstruating age.”
The Indian Workers’ Association built their own human wall at the India High Commission in London on Sunday in advance of the protest in India to “protect the natural rights of people irrespective of caste and gender.”
In a statement, the group said they were taking an oath to support the wall to not allow Kerala to “become a state of lunatics.”
It adds: “India is home to a myriad castes, sub-castes, languages and dialects but still remains a single country with an overarching cultural entity, largely due to the recognition of the Indian Constitution upholding the values of enlightenment, freedom, democracy and women’s rights.
“We do not bow to any social force challenging the basic constitutional rights of the Indian people.”
