Campaign tackling hygiene poverty helps thousands of pupils return to school after Christmas

A CAMPAIGN tackling childhood hygiene poverty has helped thousands of pupils returning to school after Christmas.

The Multibank, founded by former prime minister Gordon Brown, has worked with Fans For Foodbanks and The Hygiene Bank to collect tens of thousands of hygiene products at sport events over the festive season.

The campaign included an appeal for products such as deodorant and shower gels following concerns that children are socially isolating over fears of being told they smell.

The Hygiene Bank estimates that teachers spent over £40 million out of their own pockets last year supporting pupils with hygiene.

Mr Brown said: “Thanks to the generosity and compassion of so many sports fans, many children are returning to school this week feeling a lot more comfortable in their own skin and more confident to take their place in the classroom because they have soap, shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant and their families have the products they need to keep them and their clothes clean.”
