Union confirms more strikes to go ahead in fight for pay equality

MORE industrial action in the fight for pay equality on Scotland’s railways will go ahead on Sunday, RMT representatives confirmed today as they also announced further strike dates.

Union officials said that the next phase of action would take place in June and July, with walkouts by ScotRail ticket examiners on a further six Sundays.

Weekly strikes will take place across Scotland from June 13, the RMT said, stressing that there is no weakening of resolve among members in the long-running disputes.

The union said it was scandalous that the company was making no effort to resolve the issue.

General secretary Mick Lynch said: “Our conductor members are also fully prepared to keep this battle for equality going until the company do the right thing.

“We are going to be in for a long summer of strike action unless the company gets round the negotiating table with meaningful proposals for resolving the issue of pay equality.”

ScotRail operations director David Simpson insisted the company’s position would not change and claimed that the “reckless actions of RMT bosses are putting railway jobs at risk.”
