Scottish Tory leader labelled a ‘coward’ after failing to back school meal funds

SCOTTISH Tory leader Douglas Ross was labelled a “coward” yesterday after failing to back a motion to fund school meals, despite asserting that no child should be allowed to “fall through the cracks.”

Moray MP Mr Ross was one of 37 Tories who did not vote on proposals to extend free school meals, while Scotland’s five other Conservative MPs voted against.

Labour’s motion sought to prevent over a million children going hungry during the coronavirus crisis.

Mr Ross had earlier said he had “seen the difference” free meals can make, adding that “by giving this to all primary pupils we can make sure the offer is there for everyone.”

Green MSP Ross Greer branded the Scottish Tory leader “a coward” for not supporting the motion.

Labour’s Neil Findlay said Mr Ross was a “chancer,” adding that claiming he wanted to extend free schools meals and then failing to support it amounted to hypocrisy.
