MUMS in a West Dunbartonshire town held the Vale of Leven’s first Pride event yesterday
The sun was out in Alexandria for the event at the Pawn Lounge pub, with a family-oriented fun day giving way to an evening of music and drag acts.
It was organised by cafe owner Sandra Reilly and her employee Annemarie Kennedy to celebrate the local LGBT community and challenge homophobic abuse faced by their sons.
Ms Reilly said the spark for the event came after she saw homophobic comments directed towards Ms Kennedy’s son on Facebook.
“I’ve been there with my own son and I thought ‘enough is enough’,” she told the Daily Record.
“There’s a lot of gay people in this area of all ages who haven’t got the support and there is still a lot of stigma.
“We want them to feel they are supported in this community.”
