HUNDREDS of people gathered in Glasgow’s George Square over the weekend in support of abortion rights as attacks against the treatment intensifies across the world.
Protesters extended solidarity to those affected by the overturn of Roe v Wade in America and demanded the immediate implementation of buffer zones outside sexual health clinics in Britain in order to protect women’s reproductive rights.
They called for an end to harassment outside sexual health clinics and for real investment in such services to allow them to function better.
Young Communist League Glasgow and Lanarkshire members raised attention to how free access to abortion and sexual healthcare is a crucial step in the struggle for women’s emancipation.
“So long as politics and the economy tell us that women’s bodies are not their own, there will never be an end to gender-based violence,” the group said in a statement.
“That is why reproductive freedom is vital, as it enables women to take ownership of their own bodies.”
The group also condemned the Scottish government for continuing to allow SNP MSP John Mason to remain in office after he attended an anti-abortion vigil outside the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
