Facebook shuts down Donald Trump golf ads

FACEBOOK has removed adverts for Donald Trump’s South Ayrshire golf resort as part of its crackdown on “political” advertising.

Three ads promoting a special rate for staying at Turnberry were among over 100 adverts from Trump companies pulled by the social media network, the Scotsman reported.

The US president spent a weekend playing golf at the resort as part of his trip to Britain last year.

Facebook launched an investigation and said the ads had been erroneously flagged as political.

The social media network, which has faced scrutiny following reports of data misuse by political campaigns in Britain and the US, has tightened its rules to require a “paid for by” label on political ads.
