MEDICAL experts warned yesterday against easing coronavirus rules over Christmas over fears it will lead to an increase in cases and deaths.
British Medical Association Scotland chairman Dr Lewis Morrison and Dr Miles Mack, chairman of the Scottish Academy, said in the Herald newspaper that they had “significant concerns” about allowing households to meet between December 23 and 27, but recognised it had “clearly not been easy for politicians to strike a balance.”
They said they remained “anxious” about the impact on the NHS and its staff, with January always an “extremely challenging” time of year for the health service.
They added: “Multiple people mixing indoors for prolonged periods of time will lead to an increase in cases. This means more people becoming unwell, being admitted to hospital and, probably, more deaths.”
