Event to discuss women in leadership

WOMEN’S experience of leading political parties will be discussed tonight at an event where Natalie Bennett and Leanne Wood, former leaders of the Green Party and Plaid Cymru, will reflect on their time at the helm.

The event, dubbed Another Kind of Question Time, has been organised by the Crossroads Women’s Centre in London.

The group, which is non-party-political, said: “We think that women in particular will be interested to know what conclusions these two former leaders are reaching about parties, about politics, about working with women and communities outside parties.”

In a nod towards Theresa May’s premiership, the group added: “This is especially relevant in today’s political situation.”

Ms Bennett led the Green Party from 2012 to 2016 and is a prominent campaigner against fracking.

Ms Wood, former co-chair of the National Association of Probation Officers, led the Welsh nationalists for six years and remains a member of the Welsh Assembly.

The event, which runs from 7 to 9pm, is chaired by legendary campaigner Selma James, co-founder of the International Wages for Housework Campaign.
