OVER 100,000 protested in Tel Aviv on Saturday against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, condemning his resumed war on Gaza and demanding a deal to bring the remaining hostages home.

The demo also called for the government to reverse the sacking of security agency Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. Mr Netanyahu had announced he would depart on April 10, though the dismissal was frozen by the Supreme Court on Friday.

Many waved Israeli flags and focused their criticism on Mr Netanyahu, accusing him of undermining the country’s political institutions and not caring whether the hostages still held by Hamas nearly 18 months after its October 7 2023 attack live or die.

Mr Bar has said his dismissal is intended to suppress “the pursuit of truth” over what happened on October 7 and how Hamas was able to penetrate Israel’s defences so easily.

“The most dangerous enemy of Israel is Benjamin Netanyahu,” 63-year-old Moshe Haaharony told Reuters, because he “doesn’t care about the country, doesn’t care about the citizens.”

But the demo included an “anti-genocide bloc,” which charged Israel’s army with war crimes in Gaza.

Behind a banner reading “Stop the Massacre” in English and Hebrew, a group chanted “Security will not be achieved by bombing hospitals.”

Israel has repeatedly targeted hospitals during its invasion of Gaza, with mass graves containing hundreds of slain Palestinians uncovered after its troops withdrew from the Nasser and al-Shifa hospitals.

Others held a sit-down protest bearing images of Palestinian children killed by Israeli military action.
