NEW Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn accepted an invitation to join the Privy Council yesterday, trouncing fears that he is a “threat to national security.”
Mr Cameron offered him membership for the ancient Privy Council on Saturday, the day Mr Corbyn won the leadership race with a massive 59.5 per cent of the vote.
It comes after Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the new Labour leader was a “serious risk to our nation’s security, our economy’s security and your family’s security.”
Membership of the council is granted to senior politicians who receive secret briefings from the security services.
The day-to-day business of the council involves issues such as the siting of graveyards and university charters, and usually only involves ministers.
Mr Corbyn would be required to take a solemn oath not to reveal the information.
