Focus E15 mums plan secret stunt for first birthday party

Homeless mums will celebrate the first birthday of their campaign this weekend with music and a top-secret stunt, activists announced yesterday.

The Focus E15 mothers — who were turfed out of the hostel they lived in by vicious council budget cuts — will be partying this Sunday at an estate in Stratford, east London.

But the day won’t be all fun and games — there are plans to send a serious political message to Newham mayor Robin Wales.

Mum Jasmin Stone said: “The Carpenter’s Estate, which overlooks the Olympic Village, has been chosen as the venue for the festivities as it has 2,000 empty council homes.”

When Ms Stone and her fellow mums requested new accommodation the places offered were always outside London and away from their loved ones rather than at the local estate.

She said: “This is due to Newham Council’s decision to sell off the land to a private developer.”

The day will close with a “top-secret housing action” planned to take place in Newham addressing the injustices brought on by the housing crisis.

Yet in previous Focus E15 protests Mr Wales showed little sympathy for the plight of the almost 30 women and their young children.

So much so that a complaint was lodged against the mayor after he was filmed shouting aggressively at a pint-sized member of the campaign.

He is now under an internal investigation.
