Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale will serve an additional two-game ban and attend an anger-management course as a result of his verbal abuse of Ashwell Prince.
Gale had already served a mandatory two-game suspension for his Roses bust-up with Prince and was forced to observe from the sidelines as his teammates were presented with the County Championship trophy.
But he was also facing a hearing as the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Cricket Discipline Committee (CDC) explored whether there was a racist element to his reported description of South African Prince as a “fucking Kolpak.”
There will now be no hearing, with all parties settling on disciplinary action.
A CDC statement read: “The parties in this matter are in agreement that the matter can be resolved without a formal hearing.
“Noting that a two-match suspension has already been served arising out of this incident, in respect of both charges, the CDC imposes a two-match ban and requires Mr Gale to attend an anger-management course.”
Gale’s punishment is less than would have been expected had he been found guilty at a formal hearing, though the likelihood of that diminished when Prince himself gave a radio interview which suggested he did not take the comments as being racist.
The phrase Kolpak refers to a handball player responsible for a legal precedent that now allows some foreign-born cricketers to play in England unrestricted under the laws of the European Union.
Gale will miss the season opener and the first championship match of the 2015 season.
