CHINESE President Xi Jinping agreed measures to boost trade with South Korea on a visit to Seoul today.
China is already the country’s largest trading partner and the pair are currently negotiating a free trade agreement that will enhance ties.
Delegates also agreed to allow direct trading between the yuan and the South Korean won to reduce international dependence on the US dollar.
Mr Xi and President Park Geun Hye also said they were in agreement over the need for a nuclear-free Korea and would both do all they could to prevent further nuclear tests by North Korea.
Pyongyang has reacted angrily to Mr Xi’s trip to Seoul, which breaks a convention that Chinese leaders visit the North before the South.
It launched a flurry of missile tests and pledged yesterday to hold more.
But Beijing is keen to woo Seoul as both countries oppose a revival of Japanese militarism which they say threatens the balance of power in the Far East.
