Home Office 'must grant liver transport visa' to Indian mum to help her Warwick student son

The Home Office must reverse its decision to deny an Indian mum a visa so she can donate liver to her British student son, campaigners said yesterday.

Signatures to a petition demanding that Home Secretary Theresa May help Pulkit Maniktala by overturning the heartless ruling has soared past the 3,000 mark.

The final-year Warwick University student had been hoping to return to his studies after a transplant from his mum Karuna Maniktala in October.

But a Home Office decision to deny Ms Maniktala a visa because the operation is available in India put the transplant in jeopardy and sparked a public outcry.

“This is a matter of life and death for Pulkit,” reads the petition, which was started by Warwick students.

Writing from India, Mr Maniktala’s brother Udit urged supporters to “fight against the injustice being done by the visa people.”
