DISABILITY activists savaged Lord Freud yesterday after a watchdog published research on his welfare cuts that was “unfortunately” too difficult for the coalition.

“Lord Fudge” has repeatedly refused to commission an impact assessment that would determine who bore the brunt of his cuts.

The millionaire minister told MPs this week it was “unfortunately not possible” to break down existing Treasury data on welfare reform.

But a study commissioned by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission released yesterday showed cuts were harder on families with “at least one disabled person, particularly a child, and especially for low-income families.”

Poor households with a disabled person lost up to five times as much as able-bodied wealthy people, the study suggested.

Campaigner Sue Marsh said: “There is now absolutely no doubt at all that sick and disabled people have been hit over and over again by a barrage of cuts and the more vulnerable the family the more they have lost.”
