THREE Palestinians were injured yesterday when Israeli troops attacked a march held in solidarity with 1,500 prisoners on hunger strike.
The youths were hospitalised in the West Bank city of Ramallah after Israeli occupation forces opened fire with rubber-coated steel pellets.
Yesterday saw demonstrations across the West Bank in support of the “Freedom and Dignity” hunger strike led by jailed Palestinian Liberation Organisation leader Marwan Barghouti — tipped as the next leader of the Fatah movement.
The inmates stopped eating last week in protest at harsh conditions in Israeli jails and have demanded to be moved to prisons in the occupied territories where their families can visit them more easily.
They also want visits extended from 45 to 90 minutes and for women prisoners to be allowed to hold their children, currently separated by glass barriers.
The Israeli Prison Service responded by moving prisoners from one facility to another in a bid to isolate them, raiding cells and confiscating inmates’ property.
