RUGBY: A national anti-doping panel has imposed a two-year suspension on University of Gloucestershire All Golds player Frankie Foster after he was found to be in breach of the Rugby Football League’s anti-doping regulations.
Foster, 18, tested positive for clomiphene, a hormone or metabolic modulator on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list, after providing a sample following a match against Oldham on July 13.
RUGBY: Geoff Parling was yesterday ruled out of England’s autumn series after Leicester announced he is likely to be sidelined until December with concussion.
Parling saw a specialist this week after being concussed for the second time in three games in the 45-0 Premiership defeat at Bath 10 days ago.
“Geoff will probably be another couple of months out,” Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill said.
FOOTBALL: Newly appointed Watford boss Billy McKinlay yesterday resigned as Northern Ireland’s number two with immediate effect.
McKinlay was installed at Vicarage Road only days after joining the coaching team, with Oscar Garcia taking time off to rest following a recent health scare.
He said: “In accepting the head coach position at Watford, I recognise I’ve got to concentrate my efforts solely on this club role.”
FOOTBALL: Rangers yesterday paid back their £1.5 million shareholder loans on a day which saw more than four million of their shares traded on the stock market.
Rangers confirmed that George Letham and club chairman Sandy Easdale had been repaid money they loaned the club in February and March to meet a cash flow shortage.
The Rangers board recently ran a share issue which brought in just over £3 million.
