Townsend makes his return in draw

FOOTBALL: Andros Townsend made his return from the injury that kept him out of England’s World Cup in Tottenham’s 3-3 draw against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night.

Lewis Holtby, Roberto Soldado and Iago Falque were on the scoresheet for Mauricio Pochettino’s side while former Spurs striker Clint Dempsey netted for Seattle.

 

Bit of Potter magic gives Blues the win

FOOTBALL: Birmingham City Ladies opened up a three-point gap at the top of the Women’s Super League thanks to a 1-0 away victory over Notts County.

The only goal of the game was scored by Josanne Potter in the second half.

Her corner evaded everyone including goalkeeper Carly Telford in the only goal of the game.

 

Lampard joins City in the US

FOOTBALL: Frank Lampard is set to join New York City after being released by Chelsea.

The 36-year-old has been impressed with the new franchise and will join them for their opening season in the MLS in the 2015 season.

It remains uncertain who Lampard will go out on loan to until then, with the midfielder open to staying in England.

 

Woods hopes to impress Watson

GOLF: Tiger Woods believes he should be at this year’s Ryder Cup — but accepts he may have to do more to convince United States captain Tom Watson.

The 14-time major winner had mixed fortunes at the Open at Hoylake, finishing six over after a three-under-par first-round 69.

 

Dunga in line to replace Scolari

FOOTBALL: Former Brazil manager Dunga is set to return to the national set-up tomorrow after Luiz Felipe Scolari resigned last week following a poor World Cup.

Dunga managed the team from 2006 to 2011.
