The STUC threw its weight behind civil servants taking strike action at National Museums Scotland in a long running dispute over deep cuts in shift payments to low-paid workers.
Brian Carroll of Civil Service union PCS called on the Scottish government to provide the resources to settle the dispute.
“The SNP say they are a living wage employer — but when it comes to the National Museums of Scotland, they talk the talk but they haven’t walked the walk.”
He said the action of management to remove weekend allowances has taken away £3,000 a year from already low-paid staff.
“I have a simple message to Nicola Sturgeon, Finance Secretary John Swinney and Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop: “Our members are as determined today as they were on day one.
“You can settle this dispute with £200,000, which is a small amount compared to the more than £60 million which the National Museums are worth to the Scottish economy.”
