Labour can’t afford to ‘write-off’ Scotland

JEREMY CORBYN takes his Labour leadership campaign to Scotland today, saying the party cannot afford to “write off” the country where it lost 40 seats in May.

Hundreds are expected to hear Mr Corbyn in Aberdeen and Dundee, before two huge rallies in Edinburgh and Glasgow on Friday.

He will say: “This campaign is about spreading a message of hope and change based on the central choice — five years or more of continued austerity, or a plan for investment and growth that stands up for the majority.

“This message applies in Scotland as anywhere else.”

Mr Corbyn’s visit coincides with the conclusion of the Scottish Labour leadership contest.

Jim Murphy resigned after Labour won just a single Westminster seat amid the SNP’s general election landslide.

“Showing that we have a vision for an economy that will provide the sort of jobs, homes and opportunities people need will help us come back across Scotland,” Mr Corbyn said.
