Police probe Tory lord’s expenses
Expenses scandal: Police launched an inquiry into the House of Lords yesterday after Conservative Lord Hanningfield was found to have claimed a £300 allowance for days on which he did no parliamentary work.
The former council leader was suspended for the rest of the current Parliament in May by the Lords privileges and conduct committee.
He was also ordered to repay £3,300 which he had wrongly claimed.
13 arrested on child sex image charges
Crime: Thirteen men were arrested yesterday on suspicion of uploading and distributing indecent images of children on the internet.
The suspects were detained following morning raids throughout Cheshire. Computers and other internet-connected devices were seized.
Detective Superintendent Geraint Jones said: “We have a dedicated paedophile and cybercrime investigation team who are fully committed to tackling this issue.”
Two ‘legal highs’ made class A
Drugs: Two lethal “legal highs” — including a substance linked to 37 British deaths — have been banned as class A drugs.
Stimulant serotoni and another substance not currently found in Britain called MT-45 have both been banned, Crime Prevention Minister Lynne Featherstone said yesterday.
